Want to sew a Cambie Dress with buttons down the front? I’ve written a tutorial for the Sew, Mama, Sew blog for the Super Online Sewing Match contest – check it out! It’s a bit of work to adjust the pattern, but it’s a neat variation for this dress pattern. Why not switch out the zipper for buttons down the front?
Check out the tutorial, and more photos, here!
Oh for sure! That is very cute.
So adorable! Might have to make another Cambie… ;)
Well, I didn’t want to sew a button front Cambie, but now I sure do – that is adorable!
Haha, I know eh? It’s not something you might have considered, but now if you feel like it, the steps are laid out for you!
Thanks, Tasha! The one I made for my daughter (to copy a Modcloth dress) came out really great with your help!
OMG!!!!!! I just saw the link where you gave me the credit! I feel like a movie star!
Awesome! Glad you don’t mind me taking your idea and turning it into a post and of course, I can’t take credit for an idea that wasn’t mine!
This is a fantastic variation! I think I may have to make it.
Love the button front version!!! I may just have to make mine this way…when I finally get around to making my Cambie. This girl has too many projects in her queue!! :)
Don’t we all! Often when I finish something I think ‘I could use two more of these!’ So many ideas, so little time!
I love this! Perfectly clear instructions, and what a pretty result!
Ooh, this is a great idea! I bought Cambie when it came out, but then I found out I was pregnant and STiLL haven’t actually made it up because I wouldn’t be able to breastfeed while wearing it, but I love the pattern. A button front Cambie would be perfect!
Ah, that would make sense! I don’t know much about what clothing works for breastfeeding, but it seems like it would work.
In love!!!!
Haha, I was about to write the EXACT same thing as Alice! Samesies.
I LOOOOOOVE this! Must try!
Adorbs!!! Don’t think I’ll try it because I’m not a huge fan of buttons down my front, but it’s totally cute!
Thanks! Yeah, I can see it not being for everyone – or for every fabric. You have to want an opening down your centre front – but it is nice not to have a zipper up the back. Nothing to rub against your back when you lean in a chair!
I love this version! It’s been in my queue for a while, but after seeing this version, I think it’s going to move up in the queue!
Sweet!
This is so cute! I love button front dresses. My next Cambie will definitely be a button-up :) Thanks for the tutorial!
Thanks Chantal! Glad you like the idea!
Oh, I love this idea so much! Off to check out the tutorial and pin it for later use ;o)
Awesome! So glad you like it!
love it!!
I said this on the Sew Mama Sew post, but I have to say it again – I LOVE this variation! It is honestly so so soooooo good. I’ve just made the Cambie (on my blog at the mo!) and I have to say it is perhaps one of my favourite patterns to ever make. Your drafting is always perfect and your instructions are a dream to follow – thank you Tasia.
I think a button front Cambie may be in my future….. ;)
Thanks Suzie! I love your version, it’s gorgeous!! Your photos are so pretty. So glad you enjoyed making the pattern!
Oh, that’s so cute! That sure is a great variation! I should try it out soon…
I love this! I think I’ll have to make another Cambie… I recently finished my second (which is on my blog, if you want to take a look), and I love both of them! It’s such a great pattern. I’ll be making many more!
Love your Cambie dress! You’d never know it was a bedsheet if you didn’t say so. It’s gorgeous!
I am IN LOVE with this dress!!! I don’t suppose you have a big sale coming up? :)
