Vogue 8769: Fabric Picked!

I picked out fabric for Vogue 8769! Your fabric suggestions on the original post were fantastic. I loved the idea of tweeds, of rich jewel tones of navy or blues, and of linens for summer. While I look forward to warmer days and light linen dresses, it’s still far from summer here! So for a wintery, early-spring dress, I chose a deep teal blue wool fabric.

Look – pretty! The photo doesn’t do it justice, as it’s a beautiful, rich shade of teal.

Since I’m planning to make the long-sleeved version, I’m going to underline the whole dress. It’s fine to wear a slip under a wool dress, but what about the sleeves? I’m not particularly sensitive to wool, but I thought a cotton batiste underlining would be softer and more comfortable to wear.

All that’s left to find? One fabulous button, to show off the tab detailing at the waist.

These last few posts have been short, as I’ve been preparing for my school presentation next week. Ever watch the TV show Dragon’s Den? (I love it, and try to watch it every week!) Well, that’s what my presentation is going to be like. I have to ‘sell’ my business plan to a group of community representatives. While I know my material inside and out, I’m way more comfortable writing than speaking! I’m thinking of videotaping myself and watching it back, just to see how I look. We have to pass the review panel stage before we can move on to Phase Two. Otherwise, we’re out of the program. (Yikes!)

It’s on Wednesday, so I’ll let you know how it goes!

PS. I love that so many of you have seen Strictly Ballroom and love it, too! You’re making me want to watch it again. Have a wonderful weekend everyone, and happy sewing!

Good luck with your presentation, I’m sure you’ll fly through.

The teal fabric looks wonderful. I really need to get some dresses done as my Beloved and I do ballroom and sequence dance and love it. In fact we are dancing tonight.

Oh it will be lovely! I adore that pattern and I’m sure it will be fantastic once its made up! I think its a very good idea to interline the wool. I made a dress last year from wool, and it is sooooo itchy to wear. It’s sleeveless, but still at the neck and the armhole I nearly scratch myself to death by the end of the day. You are terribly wise to go with an interlining. Can’t wait to see it made up.

I think the teal wool will be stunning. Of course, I believe in underlining, particularly wool. I know you will do well in your presentation. I’ll be in the stands cheering you on!

I love that color! Do you think this dress should be worn with some kind of petticoat for a little lift to the skirt?

Thanks everyone for the encouragement on my presentation!! It’s nice to know you guys are on my side! :)

@Clari Colon: Absolutely! I love the idea of a petticoat to give it a little extra volume and lift. Especially one in a lighter shade of teal? Wouldn’t that be lovely! And it would make the long sleeved, high-necked dress a little more playful, too.

@gina: I certainly do have great shoes to go with it! I even have options. The hard part will be deciding which ones to wear! :)

The fabric is gorgeous! Just like something I would have picked for this pattern =) And underlining seems smart, I have a wool in my stash that’s tagged for a dress, and the issue with the arms struck me as well. Although, I think I’ll line it instead of underline it…

I watched half of Strictly ballroom yesterday (then it got too late) and it was as good as I remembered it to be! Sometimes it a bit sad to re-watch old favorites and realize that one has outgrown them, but this one is still enchanting. Now I just want to dance =)
    Have a great weekend!
