Self-Stitched September: Day Four

Today I’m wearing two handmade items, not just one! The vest you might remember from Me-Made-May, and the skirt was made by my sister. She gave it away as she wasn’t happy about how it turned out. Her loss, my gain!

What I’m Wearing:

  • Self-Stitched Vest: Simplicity 2556 in wool with bemberg lining
  • Tee shirt: Club Monaco
  • Skirt: White cotton eyelet made by my sister, McCalls 5631 (shortened to a mini-skirt)
  • Shoes: H&M

See the vest in more outfits here!

Q&A:

Q. What’s the best part of today’s outfit?

A. I think it’s really flattering – after looking at so many photos of yourself, it’s easy to tell what you like on yourself and what you don’t. The vest gives the upper body shape, while the skirt is flouncy and flirty and hides thighs. Success!

Q. Where did you go today in your Self-Stitched outfit?

A. To get my hair cut, run errands and grocery shop, make a quick stop at Fabricana, and spend time with Mr. Sewaholic. (My hairdresser’s comment was that my haircut suited my outfit!)

Q. Did you buy anything at Fabricana?

A. Just some thread, zippers and a marking pen. Nothing too exciting!

I’m so happy to see you in this vest, it is super cute. I’ve been planning to make myself a vest and I thought, “that’s the style of vest I want to make”, then I discovered it’s the same pattern I just received in my last pattern buying splurge, yay! Good luck for the rest of SSS! :)

I like the outfit! And your Q&A’s. You’re also inspiring me to pull out the crocheted vest that I got this summer that I haven’t worn yet…if I can just find a top to go with…

Thanks, everyone! I made this vest on a whim and never realized it would go with just about everything I own! @kaitui_kiwi: It’s a great, super-easy pattern and the best part is the different cup sizes. Easy to fit!

Hi Tasia! I just discovered your blog from your feature on Sew Weekly. I just got back into sewing (ok, considering the last time I was into it I was 12, hehe, so let’s just say I just got into sewing…), and your site is the perfect inspiration! I’m going to join your next Sew-Along – I can’t wait! Looks like I found you right in time to join!

Anyway, wanted to leave a comment here because this outfit is so perfect in every way, and seeing it gives me hope that I can someday sew and put together an outfit just as lovely. Your looks are so fresh and modern, they make me want to work hard to improve my technique so that I can someday transform all the fun patterns I see into my own look, as well!

Take care – and thank you*
    Amanda
