My Minoru Jacket: Pretty in Pink

Happy Monday, everyone! We were lucky to have a sunny day last week, so I ran outside to take some photos of my finished Minoru Jacket. You already know all about the making of this jacket, from start to finish, so I won’t talk too much today and let the photos speak for themselves.

Speaking of Minoru Jackets, your finished jackets are fantastic! It’s wonderful to see all the creative variations on the pattern so far, and to discover new sewing blogs too!

If you’re visiting for the first time, we finished sewing this jacket together as a group, going through all of the sewing steps together and sharing all kinds of extra tips and tricks. Read more posts about the Minoru Sew-Along here!

On to the photos!

Front and back view, taken indoors on the dress form. It’s more obvious that this is a pink/peach jacket in the indoor photos. Outside, the jacket looks almost white! Whitish-pink, even.

Outside! What a gorgeous day. The mountains in the background are so beautiful! We appreciate the sunny days here, since it rains so often. (Or I do anyways, as I’m outside every day, feeling the effects of the weather on my bike!)

In the bright light, the colour looks almost white!

Showing off the inside pocket. (That’s the lens cap for the camera I’m playing with there.)

Back view. Still love the elastic at the waistline!

I’d prefer this jacket with darker skirts and pants, but I wanted to take photos right now while the weather was nice and the clothing I was wearing went reasonably well with the jacket. And as I type this, it’s pouring rain and grey outside, so I’m glad I had the chance to take outdoor shots!

What I Like:

  • The pattern, styling and fit
  • That I switched to a more interesting lining – the stripes are a nice touch!
  • The colour – I had my moments of doubt but it’s flattering and highly visible for cycling

What I’d Change:

  • Working with the stretch cotton (as opposed to a non-stretch) was fine, but it had tricky moments where the stretch would work against me, while topstitching across the fabric or when sewing the stretch to the non-stretch lining. It’s workable but I also find stretch fabric have a bit more stiffness than non-stretch fabrics, and I like a softer-feeling jacket. Something to think about for future versions!

Looks great Tasia! The pink is really cheery and spring like – I think this will work with a lot of your already hand made wardrobe.

I’m still waiting to take pictures of mine. Once I finished my jacket, somehthing happened that never happens in March – it was 80 degrees! (Seriously, last year at this time I was shoveling my driveway after a blizzard!) I’ve been wearing shorts and a tank top and can’t bare the thought of wearing my jacket at the moment. While I am enjoying the unseasonably – record setting – warm weather, I’m sure it’s only a matter of time before we return to usual weather and I can put my jacket on.

Beautiful jacket! I can’t wait to make mine. Great advice about stretch v non-stretch.
The colour is gorgeous. So nice for spring.

Jacket and boots look great. And the weather is just right for wearing a lighter jacket isn;t it?

You are the cutest thing ever! I really need to get cracking on this, I’m in need of a sporty style jacket that I can still look like a lady in (but honestly I’ll prob wait for fall)

    Hi,
On Friday a women walked into the fabric store where I work wearing the Minoru jacket. It looked so good that when I went home I immediately ordered the pattern. I am so excited to start sewing this jacket. It’s also an unheard of 26 degrees Celsius here so I may only get to wear it in the fall. No matter, I may be able to. Ake a couple by then!

Lovely jacket and lovely photos Tasia. I have been encouraged by all the brilliant versions of this pattern out there. I just hope mine will be as good.

Tasia, great jacket and I so enjoyed following the sew along. Your instructions and photos were great. I really like the zippers you used on this project. Where did you buy them? Can you suggest a source for buying those types of zippers in the states? Thanks!

I love the scarf you’re wearing with it! It puts a chic touch to the jacket. You’re right in that it looks almost white in natural sunlight.

P.S. I’m glad you got a sunny day. Sunny days always make the day sparkle a little brighter.

Very nice, you’ve done a great job – love the inside detail, this jacket will be perfect for my West Australian winters – can’t wait to make one but first to find the perfect fabrics :)

I love the light pink jacket! I fear if it were mine, it would be dirty in a heartbeat. Do you have any thoughts on fabric guard on apparel fabrics (I’m thinking for use on the sleeves where dirt would be an issue)?

I don’t know why I didn’t think of it before, but I have a decent amount of yardage of a sky blue cotton twill that would be perfect as a second minoru!! I’ve been lamenting over having no project I can use with it… yesterday as I was looking through my stash, the idea just dawned on me. I wish that happened a month ago so I could have sewn along with everyone. yarrrr

Sooo adorable! And I love your gingham skirt too =)

    • Stephanie March 20, 2012 at 8:07 pm #

Oh sorry, I meant crinkly pinstripe =) I don’t know where the gingham came from, but something tells me it’d look just as cute with your jacket!

Love Love Love! The color goes perfectly with your complexion!

  17. Alli May 26, 2012 at 7:32 am #

I love that! It looks tough!

Love the color selection for the Minoru. I think the pink gives it such a femine touch but the jackets itself still seems tough and can stand up to anything. I recently ordered the pattern and made my own, Love it and already planning on a second. My 9yr old loved it so much that she’s been begging me for one in her size.

Do you sell a pattern for that skirt? Did you make it? Adorable!
