Lauren’s version of the Alma Blouse is playful and fun! In contrast to Karen’s vibrant and sophisticated print, Lauren picked a small-scale plaid and trimmed her blouse in rick rack for a splash of colour.
Same pattern as Karen’s, even the same version of the blouse (View A), and yet it’s a completely different look! I like the tiny pocket detail. Even something as subtle as tying the bow on the side, instead of at the front, changes up the look.

Ah! Contrast piping! Flipping love that she chose red (I think there is a small subtle amount of red in the plaid… but that could just be my monitor..) and that the pocket was also piped!!!!

Hi PatriciaAnn! I’ll be doing a handful of tutorials on the Alma Blouse, not the entire blouse from start to finish, but a few ideas or helpful hints on sewing the blouse. If you’ve never sewed before, this pattern may be a little too challenging for an absolute beginner because of the zipper and the collar or cuffs. Although if you have someone to help you along the way, it’s a good learning project. Hope this helps!

I look forward to your tutorials. I don’t know anyone who sews, so I’ll have to see if it seems too hard as a first project. Also, I’m wondering about making adjustments for my measurements…narrow shoulders and back, bigger chest, long arms. It seems that any shirt that fits my chest is too big in the back and is falling off my shoulders. Hence the reason I want to learn to sew tops and dresses for myself.

PatriciaAnn- a full bust adjustment should solve most of those fitting problems (narrow shoulders/back & large chest). When you cut your pattern, you will want to cut the size that corresponds with your upper bust measurement – this will allow the shoulders & neckline (and back) to fit correctly. When you do a FBA, it will add only to the bust area so you don’t have to worry about the shoulders falling down because they are too big. Most sewing books should cover how to do this adjustment – it’s really easy, and it amazing how much better it makes your clothing fit!
